Wedensday, October 28

We have had a good class today with about 30 in attendance. We have discussed research topics of 9 students in the class. There were lively discussions about each of the presentations. Please note the following items about our next meeting: First, we will meet on Tuesday afternoon 6:30 - 9:30pm, instead of Wednesday morning, due to scheduling problems; for those who have not presented your research topics, please send me your research topic slides and prepared to present next time; and last, for those who had presented your research topic, please prepare the next item on the syllabus - find five abstracts of research articles that related to your topic and present to the class. The abstracts need to be abstracts of research articles on related topics. Again, send me the presentations so I can thread them all together for the class presentation.

Dear Professor Li:
I am very glad to have the opportunity communicate with you. I want to say some words about my research topic. First, I feel my research topic is out of my control, because I have no conditions to do this reserch, such as shooting rugby game video. Second, I have no idea about how to find innovation point about my research topic. Third, I want to research some topic about football fitness training, but I don't know how I can to do. Will you give me some advice about my research topic. Thank you

Dear Professor Li,
Your suggestion of finding a topic to do literature review and go on to do further research is really important for all of us. However, it is very very difficult for me to select a suitable topic or even the section in my fields. I will try my best to find it as soon as possible. Thank for your contribution again!

Most of our difficulties in selecting a research topic can be helped by reading more literature. We need to find a theoretical theme that we are really interested in and than see how this theoretical frame can be used to help us in our own investigation. What will help us to start is to pick up a recent research publication (a good and important one) and read it very carefully. It will be even more helpful if it is a review paper. One way to make sure it is a good and important revew paper is to see if the paper is published on a reputable journal by a member of a productive research group. Talk to me after class if I can be of further assistance about this.

When we discus other's publications in our presentation or articlas, using information from abstracts or a full paper, all the relevant information need to be provided. such as "M. Smith, 2008, How to cite a paper, Journal of Real Information, Vol 91, pp 99-105". So, the readers will know where your information comes from.
